Indonesia is the world's fourth most populous country with
around 250 million people and also the world's largest archipelago
with over 17,000 islands. The largest economy in Southeast Asia,
Indonesia has recorded strong economic growth amid global
economic uncertainty and volatility over the last few years.
In a recent research report titled "Global Development Horizons
2011-Multipolarity: The New Global Economy", the World Bank
has predicted that Indonesia will be among the six emerging
countries that will form an economic axis by 2025. Indonesia
along with Brazil, China, India, South Korea and Russia will control
more than half of the world's economy.
As a major gas producer, Indonesia plays an important role in the
region's energy security. High rates of development, coupled with
increasing consumer purchasing power and change in climate
policies are fueling Asia Pacific's growing demand for natural gas
at a compounded rate of 4.9 per cent over the next decade.
While gas resources are plentiful in the region, realizing the
potential of natural gas calls for much greater investments
in infrastructure and innovative energy and climate policy
initiatives.
How can Asia-Pacific countries simultaneously sustain economic
growth, meet escalating energy needs and strengthen energy
security, while curbing the rise in greenhouse gas emissions?
Themed "Unleashing Potential, Sustaining Growth" GASEX
2012 will bring regional governments and industries together to
exchange information and find common ground for collaboration
towards solutions to these pressing questions.
We look forward to welcoming you to this important conference. |
